“The Healthcare System in the United States, and around the world, is based on illness.
In our system, doctors only get paid if you come in for something. They see you… They bill the encounter… Give you medicine… Then you come back because it didn’t work.
My work is actually a little bit different. My system is based on wellness. My goal is to keep you healthy.” — Dr. Kat Lindley.
In last night’s webinar you could easily have imagined Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” playing in the background.
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life for me
And I’m feeling good
It was all about a new dawn for healthcare. And it was a delight to watch our special guest Dr. Kat Lindley and Dr. Pierre Kory offer their views on ‘How to restore the Patient-Doctor relationship’.
Dr. Kat Lindley is a Croatian born, American trained board-certified family physician with a direct primary care practice in Texas. She is active in the American Academy of Physicians and Surgeons, the Global Covid Summit and the newly launched Global Health Project.
Dr. Lindley had earlier written in her guest substack – ‘Never Again’ that, “We must RESTORE TRUST… we must rebuild it brick by brick, together.”
And that’s where it got interesting, because Dr. Lindley, having grown up in communism, is a strong proponent of, ‘the market will solve it.’
This made Dr. Kory smile, because when he wrote his Public Health thesis, it was on ‘Medicare for all’. Understandably and nobly, he wanted ‘healthcare for all’.
Is it time now maybe to create a new system that provides ‘Wellness for all’?
Our Dr. Yusuf (JP) Saleeby was all for everyone working together towards this goal in the chat. Incidentally, he had also earlier shared his thoughts on a new healthcare system here.
